If you're a candidate for graduate studies at the University of Oxford, you must send the right supporting documents. Every course has requirements, and inaccurate or incomplete documents can make your application invalid.
Here is a detailed guide to assist you in preparing and sending the right documents, following Oxford's official instructions.
Official Academic Transcripts
Supply transcripts for all completed and current higher education qualifications. Transcripts should clearly show your name, institution, and grade breakdown. If your transcript is not written in English, provide the original and an official English translation. Scanned copies, official e-transcripts through secure systems, or screenshots of self-service portals are accepted.
Statement of Purpose or Research Proposal
Most programs need a Statement of Purpose (also referred to as a personal statement); others might also need a Research Proposal. If both are needed, merge them into one document with distinct subheadings. Make sure your documents meet the word limit and content requirements outlined on the course page. Make sure all the submissions are your own work as plagiarism checks are made.
Written Work
Some courses will request samples of written work, e.g., essays or dissertation extracts. Strictly follow word limits and any other formatting requirements detailed on the course page. If it is acceptable to send in one long document in place of two short ones, ensure that this is okay for your course.
Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Résumé
Some courses demand a CV listing your educational and working history. List relevant experience, publications, and any other details relevant to your application.
Language Proficiency Certificates
If your course calls for proficiency in a language other than English, submit a proper certification (e.g., JLPT for Japanese). Upload these certificates as part of your application.
GRE Scores
Some courses might ask for or suggest GRE General Test scores. If necessary, upload your GRE Test-taker Score Report in the special section of the application. We recommend aiming for a 320+ in your GRE as a score of 160 in both Verbal and Quantitative sections is considered competitive for Oxford.
Portfolio
For courses in fields like fine arts or music, a portfolio may be required. Upload documents (e.g., musical scores) in PDF or .jpg format. For audio or video files (.mp3 or .mp4), submit them via the document portal as per the instructions.
Scholarship Supporting Statements
If applying for scholarships that require additional documentation (e.g., supporting statements or questionnaires), ensure these are uploaded in the appropriate section of the application.
