WACQT, with extra support from the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation through the EDU-WACQT programme, is offering one scholarship to strengthen the Swedish undergraduate education in Quantum Technology.

The EDU-WACQT scholarship in Quantum Technology is available for non-EU/EEA students who are applying for Master’s Programmes in Photonics or Nanoscience at the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University.

The world is on the verge of a quantum technology revolution, with extremely powerful computers, intercept-proof communications and hyper-sensitive measuring instruments in sight. Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT) is a 12-year SEK 1 billion research effort that aims to take Sweden to the forefront of this very rapidly expanding area of technology. Through an extensive research programme, WACQT aims at developing and securing Swedish expertise within the main areas of quantum technology: quantum computing and simulation, quantum communications and quantum sensing. Their main project is to develop a quantum computer that can solve problems far beyond the reach of the best conventional supercomputers.

The EDU-WACQT Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship is SEK 161 500 per year for two academic years, starting in the fall of 2025.

The amount covers 95% of the tuition fee and will be paid directly to Lund University.

The EDU-WACQT Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

The scholarship recipient must be from outside the EU/EEA and is required to follow the curriculum of the Master’s Programme that the recipient is admitted to (Photonics or Nanoscience). In addition to the mandatory courses in each programme, the recipient will follow a Quantum technology track of at least 15 credits.

The selection of the scholarship recipient will be based on the applicant’s academic grades and a personal motivation letter. It must be stated in the motivation letter that the applicant is aiming for the EDU-WACQT scholarship and is committed to following a Quantum technology track.

How to Apply for The EDU-WACQT Scholarship

The next application period will open in February 2025. Applications must be submitted via the LU Global Scholarship application form. You will find a link with further application instructions on this page when the application period is open:

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must first apply to a degree programme at Lund University via the national application website  during the relevant application period. Once you've submitted a complete application and paid the application fee, you can apply for the scholarship through the scholarship application portal. The link to the scholarship application portal will be posted on this webpage when the application period begins. You will also receive an email from with the link.

The scholarship portal is separate from the national programme application portal.

The application round usually opens in February every year. The 2025 round closed on 16 February. When the next application round opens, you will find a link to application portal with detailed instructions.

Scholarship Motivation Letter

  • As part of your scholarship application, you will need to upload a personal 'Scholarship Motivation Letter' (maximum 600 words). This letter is distinct from any statement of purpose required for your programme application. Your motivation letter should explain why your academic achievements and reasons for applying to Lund University make you a strong candidate for the Lund University Global Scholarship.
